First may I say, I’m not a cat, but I am terribly curious. I am the type that doesn’t mind spoilers, because curious minds have to know! I like to know!
About my 4th grade year my sister and I shared a room for a short time. I found her diary. Well, you can imagine the battle I had inside myself. I desperately wanted to know what was in that journal. I thought she had a crush on a boy but she was tight lipped about these things. I was also little sister and little siblings always love to pester older ones. I was infinitely inquisitive, or maybe just pesky.
However, she is four years older and I knew if she found out that I would be in trouble. Worse yet I knew if she found out then my mom would know and she would have been disappointed in the fact that I did not respecting someone’s privacy. The final straw in this conundrum was that I had the beginnings of a diary in my room, and I didn’t want my sister peeking into it. I knew that if I had no respect for her private thoughts she would not respect mine.
Patreece, the heroin in Antique Dreams, finds a diary in an antique store, thus the name. She was torn as to the ethics of reading said diary but decided to peruse it a bit. Justifying the indiscretion by telling herself this person didn’t care if they had let it go to an antique store.
How would you respond to finding a diary?
